Swampy Seed Farm - S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Swampy Seed Farm

S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) holistic management goals of our Incubator Farm.

a) Crop yield and quality

80% yield using sustainable agriculture practices i.e. (cover cropping, intercropping, utilizing biodiversity), agroecological design, and eliminating synthetic pesticides and fertilizers by the end of the semester.

b) Agroecological design and environmental sustainability

While achieving high yields within the semester and market viability is vital to our success in this project, being environmentally sustainable is relevant to our broader goals. Designing our incubator farm in a way that completely minimizes use of pesticides and fertilizers through the use of intercropping is an important part of our project.

c) Marketing and economic viability

Specific: Increase the revenue generated from the sale of organic produce by diversifying marketing channels.

Measurable: Achieve a 20% increase in sales revenue from the previous year's organic produce sales.

Achievable: This goal is attainable by exploring and implementing additional marketing channels, such as farmers' markets, local restaurants, and online sales platforms, and by expanding product offerings.

Relevant: Increasing sales revenue is relevant to the economic viability of the organic farm, as it will contribute to its sustainability and growth.

Time-bound: Achieve a 20% increase in sales revenue within the next 12 months, starting from the beginning of the next growing season.

d) Social and community consideration

Social - Dividing tasks equally amongst each teammate, which will be measured in the final survey at the end of the semester.

Community - Utilizing sustainable and eco-friendly practices. Such as avoiding pesticides, insecticides or fertilizers, and instead using compost, mulch, and hay. Minimizing fertilizer runoff and ecological damage completely.

This is highly attainable as we prioritize communication and teamwork. Building around each other's schedules and working through busy weeks will be very important.
